Exhibition about forgotten soldiers

There is a new exhibition at HKW.

HKW is a place for art in Berlin.

The exhibition is open from 21 March until 14 June.

The exhibition is called Tirailleurs.

This is French.

You say it like this:

Tee-ra-yer.

It means shooter.

The tirailleurs were soldiers.

The exhibition is about them.

The soldiers named themselves tirailleurs.

This is why the exhibition is called this.

For example, the tirailleurs fought in World War 2.

World War 2 was from 1939 until 1945.

The tirailleurs were from different parts of the world.

For example, from Africa or Asia.

The tirailleurs fought for other countries in World War 2.

They did not fight for their own country.

For example, they fought for France or England.

The tirailleurs did not want to fight in World War 2.

Other countries forced them to fight.

The tirailleurs also had to fight in other wars.

They did not want to fight in these other wars either.

Many people do not know about this today.

They do not know about the tirailleurs.

The exhibition at HKW wants to change that.

It tells their stories so we do not forget them.

There are many different works of art in the exhibition.

For example:

-films.

-figures.

-painted pictures.

-letters and photos of the tirailleurs.

The art comes from people all over the world.
